We think of memory as it usually occurs when we are unable to recall, and it tells us that something is missing. But this is not a bad thing. What has happened, is that we never recorded the information in the first place! For a memory to stick well, it needs to have been attention-grabbing, interesting, or relevant to us. It also relies on association and finds the strength to new memories as support and family of memories.

It’s an important and necessary process in life that lets us get on without having irrelevant information and does not affect our lives directly. Time and disuse are also important factors.

Memories can fade and become lost because the mind doesn’t think it is important. And we forget most of what we’ve learned within one week. Forgetting is ok, but if you try to remember what is important and your brain knows it is important too, there shouldn’t be slip-ups.

Unfortunately, I must add that if memory interferes with the normal course of your life, it may be something to be looked at with your doctor and worked on.

When laying the foundation for a good memory, where mind and body need to be in good shape:

1. Get sleep 7-9 hours per night. You can’t make it up.

2. Energy sources are important such as eating fish and nuts. It has been found that a healthier weight is directly linked to lessened t memory loss and impairment.

3. Check your level of stress from time to time, as physical health (exercise) can better manage anxiety.
